The creators of Jhanak made a bold move by implementing a significant 20-year time jump and replacing beloved leads Hiba Nawab and Krushal Ahuja with Arjit Taneja and Riya Sharma. This decision, however, was met with backlash from loyal viewers who felt it was a punch to the gut. Fans, who had formed a deep emotional connection with Jhanak and Anirudh, were not ready to let go of the original characters. Social media posts revealed considerable discontent, with many calling the new storyline a “downgrade” and criticizing the teaser for lacking the heart of the original series.
The abrupt departure of the beloved duo, written off through their deaths, felt like a betrayal to the audience. The failure to gradually introduce Riya’s fierce Jhanak 2.0 and Arjit’s Rishi, a police officer, cost the creators dearly in terms of both fan goodwill and television ratings. A more gradual transition could have worked wonders. For instance, introducing Arjit and Riya’s characters alongside the original cast for a few episodes would have given fans time to become accustomed to the new dynamics. Imagine Rishi crossing paths with Anirudh or featuring Jhanak 2.0’s spirited personality in a subplot—small glimpses could have helped build familiarity without abruptly disorienting viewers.
Although the promotional material showcased Riya’s “fearless, opinionated” character, it failed to deliver the emotional impact fans were hoping for. Some users on X even described the new leads' performances as “unconvincing” in comparison to Hiba and Krushal’s raw intensity. The creators also missed an opportunity for an effective promotional campaign. Multiple teasers connecting Riya and Arijit's characters to the original *Jhanak* legacy could have piqued curiosity. Additionally, a mini-arc that illustrated how Jhanak’s daughter inherited her mother’s fiery spirit might have made the shift feel more organic.
Instead, the sudden change, likely driven by TRP pressures following the IPL 2025 season, caused *Jhanak* to fall out of the top five shows. Fans on X expressed frustration, suggesting that the plot felt repetitive, with one user quipping, “Leena only knows how to copy her own shows.” Engaging directly with fans could have softened the transition. Acknowledging their affection for Hiba and Krushal on social media or teasing the new vision might have converted skeptics into supporters. Retaining familiar elements, such as giving Sumeet Sachdev’s Anirudh a more substantial role, could also have eased the transition.
By rushing the leap, the creators alienated their fan base. A little patience—fostering chemistry, providing context, and building excitement—could have given Arjit and Riya an impressive debut and even won over the most upset fans.
