Supriya Pathak, Sayani Gupta and Rithwik Dhanjani come together for a brand-new audio show ‘Buri Nazar’ only on Audible

 T

he drama thriller will keep the listeners on the edge of their seats till the very end

Audible, the world’s largest producer and provider of original spoken-word entertainment and audiobooks, launches its newest title ‘Buri Nazar’ - an Audible Original thriller starring Sayani Gupta, Rithvik Dhanjani, and Supriya Pathak Kapur.

Usha (Inimitable Supriya Pathak Kapur) is convinced that the Evil Eye, a curse that brings continuous misfortune, was cast upon her daughter, Pallavi (Sayani Gupta), in the womb. What else could have possibly left her driven, career-oriented daughter edging closer and closer to 30 without a prospective husband? Determined to set Pallavi on the right path, Usha arranges date after date with potential suitors, but after yet another setup fails, it seems her efforts are proving fruitless. But in an unexpected turn of events, Pallavi becomes her own matchmaker when she meets and quickly falls for Sandeep (Rithvik Dhanjani), a young Indian American entrepreneur. And though she expects her mother will be elated with her finally finding a man, Pallavi is distraught and confused to find her mother growing increasingly suspicious of Sandeep’s motives…and his true identity…

Told through a series of phone calls and voicemails, this Audible Original penned by award-winning playwright Madhuri Shekar, and adapted into Hindi by Noopur Sinha, transitions seamlessly from a light-hearted family dramedy to an unexpectedly supernatural thriller.

With an endearing cast of well-rounded characters, sharp, natural dialogue, and a shocking edge-of-your-seat climax, Buri Nazar is a can’t-miss tale about cultural miscommunications, family secrets, and the lingering echoes of trauma.

Talking about her experience of narrating an audio show for the first time, Supriya Pathak Kapur said, “Playing the role of Usha and emoting the complex feelings of a loving but worried mother who just wants to protect her child using only my voice was an exciting challenge that I have thoroughly enjoyed.  Audiobooks and shows have the ability to tell a story in a new, exciting and uniquely interactive manner, and I am excited to explore this medium further

Sayani Gupta, who has essayed the lead role of Pallavi, in the audio show, said, “It’s unbelievable how much potential audio shows/ plays have. Growing up listening to radio plays, and my father being part of All India Radio, I have always been attracted to and intrigued by voice work. I enjoy doing it tremendously. It's amazing to learn the range of emotions you can portray and tell a story with its nuance using just your voice, which is very powerful. Audio storytelling is a craft in itself, and the scope, absolutely fascinating. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing Pallavi and loved the banter with my mother and the romance with the boyfriend. Buri Nazar is an extremely unpredictable, exciting story that I know will have our listeners at the edge of their seats - I hope they enjoy this story, as much as we did narrating it!”

Rithvik Dhanjani said, “Stepping into the audio world of entertainment has been an awesome experience for me – the epic sound production and technological innovation has blown me away! Playing this multi-faceted, mysterious character using only the power of my voice has been an incredibly unique challenge and I can’t wait to see what my fans think! “

‘Buri Nazar’ will be available for free for Audible.in members on August 31st 2021.

Sangeeta Kapure enters Zee TV’s Apna Time Bhi Aayega in a negative role

Ever since its premiere, Zee TV’s Apna Time Bhi Aayega has been inspiring its audience with its thought-provoking tale and entertaining them with consistent twists and turns on the show. In fact, the recent conflicts between Rani (Megha Ray) and Ranvijay (Imran Khan) has kept viewers at the edge of their seats to see who will finally win this battle. While the mind games continue to entertain the viewers, a new twist in the form of Vijaya Shaktawat has recently entered the Rajawat household with a master plan to capture the entire property and declare herself as the new Rani Sa. Essaying this role is popular television actress Sangeeta Kapure who returns to playing a negative character after nearly 4 years.

Vijaya is Rani Sa’s cousin, who is poles apart from Rajeshwari, and has been brought up in a very different way than her. She was always jealous of Rajeshwari and even though she got married in a rich household, her crass nature remained intact. Her chance to seek revenge and destroy Rani Sa’s life seems to be coming true with Ranvijay joining forces with her to make her plan a success. While Vijaya is determined to bring destruction in Rajeshwari’s life, Sangeeta is excited and eager to play this evil character.

Talking about her return to playing a negative character with Apna Time Bhi Aayega, Sangeeta mentioned, “Vijaya’s character was a sealed deal for me from the moment I learned about the character. At that time, I could almost visualize myself in her shoes. Although I have essayed royal as well as negative characters in the past, this is the first role where I am essaying both the elements together which makes the entire process even more exciting and challenging for me. I must add that most of my characters prior to this have been a little playful and chirpy in nature. But after a really long time, I am returning to a grey role and I am enjoying portraying the strong body language that comes with such a character. I have had a wonderful start with Apna Time Bhi  Aayega and the team who cordially welcomed me. I hope to receive an equally warm response from the audience as well.”

In the meantime, Apna Time Bhi Aayega also completed 250 episodes recently and as they move forward, the show is all set to entertain viewers with new twists and turns that Vijaya brings to everyone's life. While her entry into the house has forced Rani Sa and her family to leave the house and reside in a chawl, Rajeswari is gearing up to fight back. But what will be Rani Sa’s next steps?

To find out, watch Apna Time Bhi Aayega every Monday to Saturday at 6:30pm, only on Zee TV!

Sneha Namanandi: Pets help you understand the value of love, responsibility and humanity

Sneha Namanandi who would be seen in Bade Acche Lagte Hai says people need to understand the importance of pets. Since four-legged domesticated creatures can't talk, we need to be more loving and caring towards them. The actor and entrepreneur, who will be seen next in Bade Acche Lagte Hai season 2 (please confirm), recently celebrated International Dog Day with her pets Maui and Miguel.

"Many people don't understand the value of pets and dogs in their lives because they don't own one. Well, sometimes it is also true for those who own pets. I feel we don't choose dogs/ pets, the pets choose us. That's what is the most fortunate thing in your life. If a dog actually comes to your life, it's a good thing," says Sneha, who entered showbiz with Gumrah and was last seen in the music video Main Jis Din Bhula Du.

The actor adds that pets are a reflection of their owners. "They grow up to be like us. If we are anxious they get anxious. If we are sad they get sad. So I always try to be happy and smiling around them. I think everyone who can afford should have a pet. They help you understand the value of love, responsibility, and humanity," she says.

Animal cruelty is the worst thing. " It is not only being in human but that's just being pathetic... For the betterment and welfare of animals, we could actually make donations. This money given to different NGOs and group working for the betterment of animals should also be made mandatory," adds Sneha, who runs a popular pet cafe in Mumbai.

Explaining why she thinks the donation should be mandatory because along with those being adopted, those who aren't and of course street animals also needs to be taken care of. She hopes the government will formulate policies to help these animals in the street.

"Apart from running a cafe, I will continue with my initiative towards feeding the strays," the pet lover continues, "I know a lot of people are scared of dogs. I have nothing against them but if they could actually make an effort or get their fears out and start trusting dogs I am sure they would find out how harmless these animals are. There is nothing better than a dogs/pets love because it's unconditional. Unlike humans, they don't hold any complaints or grudges in their hearts. That's what makes them what they are full of love, compassion, responsibility. Every family who has children should  adopt a dog. They teach children companionship, makes them strong and responsible."

Sneha also stresses on the vaccination of animals. "This again should be mandatory for every house that has a pet and if possible street animals can also be added to the list. Remember, when you give love, you get love," she signs off.

Chitra Vakil Sharma: A woman can wear a gown, and so can a man, things should be that simple, it’s time we embrace change

Earlier there was a lot of stigma around men's makeup and grooming. People generally used to avoid talking about it. Agreeing on the same, producer Chitra Vakil Sharma is happy that the outlook is changing. She explains how she perceives all the talks and situation around grooming, and why she thinks grooming should be gender-neutral.

“Many of us love makeup so it’s never been a stigma, but yes it’s been a wow factor. Usually, people would wear makeup for various occasions; probably there were not so many brands of makeup artists. Early there was no academy, also very few people would endorse it as a career, however with changing time I must say even corporates have been conscious about their look and now like to wear day makeup as well,” says the co-producer of the web project Tandoor.

She continues that the fashion and makeup industry have always been very attractive industry.

“Thanks to social media, YouTube, and influencers, basic makeup hacks are now easy to learn and now “bacche se lekar budhhe tak” talk about it. Also, men’s makeup is witnessing a massive boom world over. Thank God men are making videos and posting them because we need to change the way we think. Things should be simpler and progressive in times like these. Gender is fluid, according to me. A woman can wear a gown, and so can a man. Things should be that simple. And it is time we embrace change. Why make it a gender perspective? There will be a critic in every field,” she adds.

Chitra herself is not at all into makeup. “Though I enjoy seeing people wearing makeup, no matter, who you are, where you come from, you are beautiful is what I believe. I don’t do makeup so there is no regime that I follow. But yes I do have some advice. Don't waste so much time worrying about your skin or weight. Develop what you do and what you put your hands on in the world,” she says.

Celebs share their fondest Janmashtami memories

Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna who is lovingly known as Kanha is being celeberated today. Looking back at their childhood days, CelebritiesTV stars share some of their fondest memories related to the festival.

Sneh Binny, co-owner of Delhi Binny’s Brigade, agrees with Sheena. "Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve attended a Janmashtami ceremony. It was when I was in a boarding school. In fact, I was part of the human pyramid back then. It’s a fun festival," he said.

Bhagya Lakshmi actress Parull Chaudhry recalls seeing decorative jhankis outside everyone’s home in Delhi. "My Janmashtami memories are of my childhood days. There used to be decorative jhankis outside everyone’s home in Delhi, and in the evenings we would go for a long walk along with neighbors, friends and family and take a round of the entire neighbourhood and take Prasad from everyone who had these beautiful jhankis made with such effort and love. As far as Dahi Handi goes, I have seen the madness here in Mumbai. I have witnessed some real difficult ones, which are tied at a great height and takes expertise and team effort to break. The music and energy around give the participants so much encouragement, however, I feel it isn’t safe," she shared.

Inspector Avinash actor Harjinder Singh likes bhajans and kirtans during the festival time. "Janmashtami is a celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna. I've seen one or two Dahi Handis. The good thing about Janmashtami is that the bhajans and kirtans take place in temples, and that adds to the positivity," he shared.

Sasural Simar Ka 2 actor Avinash Mukherjee enjoys the Dahi Handi celebration. "I have been raised in Mumbai, so I have seen Janmashtami's Dahi Handi celebration quite often. The festive feeling is always good. Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city where all festivals are celebrated. That's the beauty of living in Mumbai.

Naagin 5 actor Sharad Malhotra recalls celebrating the festival in Kolkata. "In Kolkata, my home-town Janmashtami is celebrated in a big way. I feel very good when I hear Lord Krishna bhajans, the vibrations of Janmashtami is very good. It comes after Rakshabandhan and is followed by Ganpati, Navratri and Diwali," he said.

Producer Nivedita Basu talks about Janmashtami sequence in TV shows. "Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city and we get to celebrate all the festivals, Janmashtami is one of them. Even in television shows, we incorporate Janmashtami sequence, and Lord Krishna is the saviour to many of our protagonists in times of need. Janmashtami sequences are mostly well received by the audience," she said.

Tiger Heart producer Amit Sarin used to do a lot of masti with friends. "Janmasthmi is always amazing. The Dahi Handi songs in films and TV shows always look good. Lord Krishna has a special place in our hearts as well as in TV and films. I enjoy all festivals. In school, it used to be fun as the one used to get to do a lot of masti with friends. I used to relish nariyal ladoo in abundance," he recalled.

Tera Yaar Hoon Main actor Sagar Parekh used to be part of Dahi Handi celebration. "I remember when I was 10 years old, my mom used to dress me up like Lord Krishna. She used to recite lines from Bhagwat Gita. All the children used come together, climb up and break Dahi Handi. I even had hair line fracture due to it," he shared.

For Mariam Khan Reporting Live actress Sheena Bajaj, it's a fun festival. "As a child, I have always seen it as a fun festival, but due to this pandemic it’s not safe unless all are vaccinated, but you can cook the good stuff. The best memory is when I attended a Janmasthmi pooja at a friend's place. Lord Krishna was decorated beautifully in flowers," she said.

Bigg Boss 14 contestant Jasmin Bhasin wants to celebrate the festival in Mathura. "I grew up in Kota, Rajasthan. I have seen Dahi Handi a couple of times. Some day, I would like to go to Mathura and celebrate Janmashtami there. I've heard the celebrations are huge in Mathura and Vrindavan. I would like to go and attend that. Festive fervour always makes one happy as it brings a lot of positivity. I like to eat sweets like jalebi and laddoo," she said.

There is a lot of music and colours. Since we used to live in town, we have enjoyed this festival to the fullest. It's not like we are Parsis, so we don’t celebrate. We do celebrate it in a small way.

Pranitaa Pandit: If the role is substantial I can even do a cameo… Negative lead or grey characters and comic roles interest me

End of last year Pranitaa Pandit and her husband Shiv Pandit welcomed their first child. The couple became proud parents of a baby girl. Before she conceived, Pranitaa was doing the Balaji Telefilms’ TV show Kawach on Colors. Now that her baby is growing up, the actor is slowly working on getting back into shape along with of course enjoying her time with her little angel, Anysha Pandit. She is also planning to get back to work soon.

So what kind of roles are you interested in taking up? “Something that is impactful and interesting. It can be any regular character in the show. If the role is substantial I am absolutely ok to even do a cameo. But it should be like driving the plot, bringing a major twist. Even if it’s not the lead, it has to be a character around which the content revolves in a way. Negative lead or grey characters interest me the most, the other kind that I enjoy a lot are comic roles,” says Pranitaa, who has done TV shows like Kasam, Kawach, Uttaran and Jamai Raja.

Talking about her amazing post-pregnancy weight loss, she adds, “I have already lost 16kgs, the weight that I had put on post-pregnancy. And, it took me a few months to lose those kilos. To be precise it took about six months.”

There are no more reservations around married female actors or young mothers getting substantial roles on television. “Absolutely I don’t think there should be any taboo attached to being a mom now all of us are aging gracefully. So it’s amazing that a lot of mothers are getting substantial roles. Think of Anupamaa, the show is being driven by somebody who is middle-aged and not some 17 or 18 years old. So there is a lot of scope for good actors and good content now,” she feels.

Talking about content, Pranitaa is happy how TV is opening up to real and relatable stories and approach.

“Television has evolved in terms of content but I would still say we need to do much more. There are still the same, age-old concepts that are being explored by some. Good that many are experimenting. Unlike the usual love stories and family dramas, now we have shows in every genre, so we have already started approaching diversity,” she explains. Having done a lot of work on television, the actor is particular about what kind of content she would choose now as a comeback vehicle.

“I want to go back to work to something which adds value and not something that I have already done. If I am leaving my family and going out for work and working for 12 hours I want to make sure it’s worth it. Initially, it didn’t matter, but now I have a baby, so I need to prioritise her, and balance my family life and work. So, if I am leaving her behind to go to work, the project better be good, it better makes sense and helps me grow as an artist,” she conclud

Insisting that her foray into the world of music was not a flash-in-the-pan decision, writer and director Vandana Khandelwal, says that it’s her passion & love for the craft of music which is the prime factor that attracts her to be a part of the prestigious Indian Music Fraternity.

Her directorial debut “Ab Tere Bina” ft. Soham Naik and Anaya Shah is out now “The song conveys a beautiful story.  We have tried to explore emotions of love in different ways. A very soulful number which will give you goosebumps. The song will keep you company when you are nursing a broken heart"

Simple words, very layered melody , and that's the best combination which describes Vandana’s new song. In the time when Bollywood is facing scarcity of originality, she boosts original, fresh & authentic music with their romantic ballad.

Somy Ali colours her hair blonde: When I made the decision, I was terrified, but I did it anyway… now I’m receiving a lot of compliments

Somy Ali decided to change her look and coloured her beautiful long tresses blonde. The actor-turned-humanitarian is happy with the result and has been getting compliments from friends, family, fans and colleagues.

“I get bored easily. It’s just part of my personality. And I enjoy changing my hair style or my style of dressing radically from time to time. I believe change is good. So, this time I wanted to do something completely out of my character and it turns out that I love it. I know that it is not easy to carry off blonde hair and I must admit that when I made the decision, I was terrified, but I did it anyway. Now, I am receiving lots of compliments,” she says.

Negating those who think that this experiment-loving streak is her style statement, Somy adds, “I love trying something new, that’s about it. I idolise JLO, she is a great dancer. She is stunning, and is the epitome of someone who defies the aging process. I like to emulate her style a great deal, be it hair or clothing.”

While she keeps busy working for her NGO, NO More Tears, she also takes time out for herself and enjoys her life. She prefers keeping it glamorous to say the least.

“That is because my work and personal life do not have to be mutually exclusive. I’m not a corporate person and never will be. And, I will not let anything or anyone hinder my ability to be me. I like wearing makeup and sometimes I like to wear something that’s provocative. Yet, I save lives but then me wanting to be glamorous should not be a roadblock with what I do career-wise. There is so much freedom in being yourself and your own boss. There’s greater freedom when you obtain the ability to not care what people say or think of you. I do not judge and don’t care about being judged,” she shares. Somy feels that for every woman it’s important to be strong, independent and carry themselves in a certain way. “Every woman should have the freedom to be who she wishes to be. I think the “MeToo” movement plays a pivotal role in giving women the freedom to be their true selves. We are not fully there yet, but there has been significant progression. We are empowered and we now have a voice,” she adds further.

So what’s her style mantra and who does she look up to when it comes to fashion. “Anything that JLO and Manish Malhotra create inspires me. As far as my style mantra is concerned, it all depends on how I am feeling when I wake up. Of course, if I am going to court, it’s more conservative. There, I don’t have a choice as proper court attire is required. Typically, I enjoy ripped jeans and one of NMT’s t-shirts. Can’t think of a better attire to save lives,” she ends with a smile.

Himanshu Malhotra talks about his love for cricket

 The

National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29, and Shershaah actor Himanshu Malhotra has shared his love for sports, especially cricket.

"I have been playing cricket. I was a professional cricketer for so many years and then I became an actor. I played badminton and table tennis over a period of time. I played football also, a little bit. I love sports," said the actor, who thinks that being an athlete, you have to take care of health.

"The national sport of our country is hockey, but cricket has been termed as a kind of a religion in India. Everyone who's been playing it, has been treated like God," added the Ek Nayi Umeed-Roshni actor.

Himanshu, who started off as an actor in mid-2000s, feels that sports other than cricket, are slightly less popular in India.

"Tennis and badminton (are popular) because of Sania Mirza and PV Sindhu. The moment we have a Sania Mirza or a PV Sindhu, we will have kids following them. The moment we have a Shah Rukh Khan, we will have younger generation kids following him. The idol creates a great avenue for sports, and that's what happens in our country as well. We actually follow celebrity culture a lot. We follow heroism a lot, that's what happens," he said.

Hasan Zaidi: I am an average sportsman!

Mere Ghar Aana Zindagi  actor Hasan Zaidi has opened up about his interest in sports on the occasion of National Sports Day, which falls on August 29. "I believe that sports in India apart from cricket, have so much potential. Cricket has become this God of all sports that we have and everything else gets overshadowed, " he said. "Thanks to Chak De and some other films that we are celebrating our hockey and players a little more. Although we always had a brilliant hockey team and tennis players like Mahesh Bhupathi and the Amritraj brothers. There's so much more that we can do in terms of having tennis courts everywhere and promoting tennis. There are a lot more sports, and India has so much potential and slowly it's coming out but it needs to be funded properly. It needs to be curated properly. India is second to none in terms of competing at a world stage in any field," added the Horror Story actor.

As for him, he calls himself a "very average sportsman".  "I used to be the volleyball captain of the school. I was the cricket captain of the school. I am a fairly decent squash player. I play squash almost every day. I've been scuba diving a lot because we grew up in Muscat. It has the best beaches in the world. Also, I've lived in Cyprus a lot. I've also worked as a lifeguard at some point in my life in Cyprus as a summer job," he said.

Now, he is having fun teaching his daughter, Naila, all the sports. "She's an avid horse rider which I have to learn from her. Because of having Christina (wife) in my life and being able to have an access to Austria, skiing is something that I've started in the last 10 years. I've had a few runs and it's absolutely wonderful," he said.  "At school and state level, there should be proper qualified, funded talent scouts who go everywhere and spot talent. These kids should be encouraged and they should be funded and sponsored. Then there would be no looking back in terms of the sports legacy that we create for our country," he added.

I am a cleanliness freak and till date I sweep and wash the floors of my room and bathroom by myself," reveals Aditya Narayan on Zee Comedy Show

Even as the pandemic continues to cast its shadow of stress, Zee TV is attempting to lighten up the country's collective mood by offering its viewers an escape from all the stress via the route of rib-tickling comedy through its reality show, Zee Comedy Show. While the show has helped every Indian family unwind with some of India's top comedians making them LOL their stress away, this weekend, we will see Udit Narayan, and his wife Deepa Narayan entertain us with their interesting and spicy anecdotes and revelations. Aditya Narayan’s parents were special guests on the show, but they weren’t the only guests present on the set! This weekend, Zee Comedy Show also decided to deliver a much-needed dose of laughter to the ones who need it the most - the Ex-Servicemen of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force who have worked tirelessly for the safety of the country.

With the ten comedians of the show, including the newest member Mubeen Saudagar, performing some hilarious acts and the Laughing Buddha of the show, Farah Khan leaving them in splits with her witty reactions, the Ex-Servicemen were seen unwinding in a #HasiOnStressGone mood! However, adding an extra element of entertainment to their experience, Aditya Narayan showcased a dramatic act revolving around the Narayan household with Chitrashi Rawat and Gaurav Dubey mimicking his parents. From household chores to family secrets and much more was revealed in the act and it left Udit and Deepa Narayan thoroughly entertained. While discussing the act, Farah asked if this was the actual scenario at home and asked them if Aditya helps out with household chores.

Just then Deepa revealed an interesting and a rather ‘gharelu’ secret about Aditya, when she said, "Adi loves cleaning, he keeps everything absolutely clean, so much so that even when I was once getting operated in the hospital, Adi cleaned up my entire hospital room for me. Sometimes, I have my things left scattered around, but Adi comes and cleans up everything, so hat’s off to him."

Aditya Narayan also added, "I am a son and a daughter for my parents, so I help out with all the household chores. In fact, I am also a cleanliness freak. No one loves cleaning things in the house as much as I do. Till date, I sweep and wash t

he floors of my room and bathroom by myself. I am so dedicated to cleanliness, that my parents joke about it and take videos too while laughing.
"

Now that’s an interesting revelation, right? While Gaurav Dubey and Chitrashi Rawat definitely left Udit and Deepa Narayan in splits, the entertaining performances put up by the other comedians also kept the two guests of the show laughing till the end.

To have a hearty laugh and drive away your stress, tune in to Zee Comedy Show every Saturday and Sunday at 10 PM, only on Zee TV

Eijaz Khan celebrates his birthday in the lap of nature!

Birthday celebrations are in the air for Eijaz Khan. The actor, who turns a year older on August 28 i.e, is happy to be 46.

“I  turned 46 today...Wow! Turning 40 was a milestone, and now I am on the other side of 45, I should be older and wiser. But, I think I am going in the opposite direction,” he laughs before adding, “ Pavitra (Punia; girlfriend, actor and entrepreneur) had a surprise planned for me. We are in Coorg in the natural surroundings. I love to connect with nature.”

Eijaz is not too hot on birthdays, rather he get very uncomfortable with all the attention that comes with it.  “As in ‘Ohhh today is birthday’ I have to do something special, I have to stand out, I have to do something outstanding etc… When I am compelled to do something it kind of puts me off, if things happen naturally I like it more. This is the first birthday that I will be spending with Pavitra, so I am looking forward to it. I don’t know, maybe we will be travelling, we may go to a forest reserve or we can go camping, things have opened up. I generally take bike rides on my birthdays and have gone for many solo trips with my friends. This time I still don’t know what I am doing,” says the Bigg Boss 14 contestant.

Looking back, his fondest birthday memories from childhood include this one incident that revolves around photo camera and photo studios, both these things in earlier days were quite expensive. “I remember we used to visit a photo studio before the birthday party so that we have a photo clicked on the occasion. A lot of powder used be put on my face and they made me stand in front of the camera and take a picture. It was fun. We would get new clothes during birthdays and I used to be very excited about that gift. I remember one time I got Power sports shoes and it was a huge deal back then,” he adds.

So has the meaning of birthday changed post 40? “As much as we say age is just a number, I think when you get older, you sort of tell yourself to pause, reflect, figure out what is the real meaning of life and pursue the same that because I think we are done with the mistakes that we did when we are younger, we are done with figuring ourselves now know our shortcoming, and our positives too. I now think of making everyday matters, and taking more risks. I think these are the things that have changed for me,” says the actor, known for TV shows, Kahiin To Hoga, KKusum, Kkavyanjali, Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa, and films, Tanu Weds Manu, Zilla Ghaziabad, Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

There is a saying life begins at 40. “I think stagnation comes when we become a little more sensible. Having said that I keep making mistakes, I am still learning. I will always be a student. I am still on the move,” he signs off.

Sanchita Banerjee: Phooli and I are exactly the same

Rakshabandhan... Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhaal" actress Sanchita Banerjee thinks that she and her character, Phooli, are more or less identical.

"Phooli is a very loving and kind-hearted girl who unfortunately is mute yet she is very expressive and adorable. She is independent and has her own sweet shop. She is the one who earns in the family yet she is always troubled by her bhabhi. So despite all the troubles and difficulties in her life, she always manages to find time for Rasaal and Shiv. She also has a soft spot for Umed," she said.

She loves the motherly bond with the kids and the silent love story between Umed and Phooli, who together have been named Umeli by viewers.

"Phooli and I are exactly the same. The only difference is that sadly she can't speak and I am very talkative in real life. Rest, we are identical," she said.

Earlier, she was not sure whether the viewers would be able to connect with Phooli or not as she can't express herself through words.

"But as the show went on, by the grace of God, people have shown so much love towards me. The best compliment that I have received so far are for my smile. People have also told me that they love my expressions. Many of them find Phooli very simple and beautiful. I have learnt a little bit of sign language too and people have appreciated me for that as well. They also love the chemistry between Umed and Phooli.
So I am very thankful to my audience for showering so much love," she said.

Earlier the show was named as "Resham Ki Dor".  "It was a great title, but it didn't specify whether it was the bond between two siblings or between Umed and Phooli. Now 'Rakshabandhan' makes it clear that it is the love of a sister for her brother and she will go to any extent to protect him and vice-versa. Both Shivraj and Rasaal have done a great job," said Sanchita.

"Currently, it is the only show which is one-of-a-kind where the story revolves around a brother and sister, a single father who gets married to two women out of which the one who is innocent can't speak and the other one has evil intentions. So all these characters and the story makes it very unique and interesting to watch," she added.

The show has an authentic Rajasthani flavour, and characters dress up accordingly.

"The outfits are really beautiful. Our designer and her team have done a great job in terms of styling. It usually takes me one hour to get ready which includes make-up, hair styling and costume. But if there is a bridal sequence then it takes about one and a half hours. The bridal outfit which I wore for the wedding scene weighed 10 kgs and the jewellery weighed 5 kgs. It took us 3 days to complete the wedding part, so all those days I was wearing clothes and jewellery that weighed 15 kgs," she said.

"Rakshabandhan..." also stars Nyrraa M Banerji, Nishant Malkhani and Yogendranath Kumaria.

Asked about her favourite co-star on the set, she said, "I share a very strong bond with all my co-stars. Nishant is a very dear friend of mine and a gentleman too. Nyrraa is a sweetheart, we call each other divas. Yogendraji is a very caring person. He really looks after me like a sister. Soonveer is the funniest guy on our set. Manishaji is a darling and there is so much to learn from her. Shiv and Rasaal are the heart and soul of our show and on the sets. But being a girl and as per the story and scenes, I spend most of my time with Kamesh Bhabhi and Rasaal, so that makes them my two most favourite co-stars."

The audience also seems to be loving the characters.

"We have been getting very positive feedback on social media and also in the form of high TRPs. Viewers have personally messaged me saying they love Umeli, and want to watch them more. I am really grateful to my viewers," said Sanchita.

"Rakshabandhan..." is produced by Yash and Mamta Patnaik.

"They are very easy going. They both are so down to earth. They are very soft spoken and understanding. We have never had any problems on our set related to food, overtime or any other production glitches. I have met them only once. Initially, I was a little nervous to speak with them, but trust me they are so loving and make you feel very comfortable. As you all know Beyond Dreams is one of the biggest names in television industry, I am really honoured and proud to be a part of this team," she said.

She also has fun on sets of the show.

"We keep having funny incidents almost everyday. Recently, during filming there was this scene where Umed, Phooli, Kamlesh and Moong Singh were befuddled. Our director, Mohit Kumar Jha, who is very productive yet creative made that scene so hilarious that we all ended up laughing after every cut. Our set feels like home, so I never feel like leaving my home," she said.

"So altogether, I am extremely happy with my 'Rakshabandhan...' family and tremendously proud to be a part of this venture," she added.

The team has been shooting in this difficult time. Asked about the learnings from the pandemic, she said, "I have learnt the value of life from this pandemic. I have learnt the value of money and most of all, the value of family. Each day we must thank God for this life and for making us who we are."

Sonali Jaffar: I think good content rules the TV screen… there are shows that have worked irrespective of the gender headlining the story

Being the brain and hand behind popular shows on the tube, Sonali Jaffar is a name to reckon with in Indian television. Shows associated with her include Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha, Tujshe hai Raabta, Qurbaan Hua, among others. The very busy person that she is, Sonali takes out some time to discuss a few things about television.

Even though the industry has progressed content-wise, somewhere in all TV shows we will find one woman who every now and then becomes a villain. Explaining, Sonali adds, “I think that women mostly watch these shows, and their problems generally in the house in that environment come from other women, so that gets preference. Also, a man taking on a woman that doesn't make a good visual. I mean it's a back-handed compliment because two women that are in conflict with each other always make a better visual than a conflict between a man and a woman unless there is romance. I think two women can make a better picture, so I don't think it's a convenient thing to do, rather it’s done by choice to keep things engaging.”

Addressing the 'female actors getting preference over their male counterparts on TV' debate, Sonali shares her point of view. She also reveals about her upcoming production in the process.

“With every other domain that belongs to man, I think this is the only space that's left for women to rule. Of Course, things are changing but they're changing for the better only. But, more than anything else I think good content is the reason behind a show’s success. I feel there are strong characters written, there's a new show that we're planning which has a male leading the story, so let's see how that works out for us and maybe that will be the game-changer,” she adds.

It’s true that women should be respected both in real life and reel worlds but sometimes shows seem to go overboard and portray women as if they are next to god. And that at times makes them look unreal.

“Yes, I think women are generally stronger than men and it's very well accepted, emotionally and physically. Also, the thing of giving birth is like a huge thing, women-only can do that and that's the ultimate pain they go through. So yes everyone looking up to women is natural, isn't it? But at the same time, we should not go overboard. I guess we don’t have to because women are anyway more powerful,” she says.*

Talking more on how it is commonly believed that women rule the TV screens like men rule the silver screen, Sonali ends on a different note. “I think good content rules the TV screen. It doesn't matter whether it's a man, woman, or a child, we have seen so many shows that have worked irrespective of the gender headlining. It's just good content that works. Period,” she signs off.

Celebs share their fondest Janmashtami memories

Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna who is lovingly known as Kanha, will be celebrated on August 30 this year. Looking back at their childhood days, TV stars share some of their fondest memories related to the festival.

There used to be decorative jhankis outside everyone’s home in Delhi, and in the evenings we would go for a long walk along with neighbors, friends and family and take a round of the entire neighbourhood and take Prasad from everyone who had these beautiful jhankis made with such effort aand love. As far as Dahi Handi goes, I have seen the madness here in Mumbai. I have witnessed some real difficult ones, which are tied at a great height and takes expertise and team effort to break. The music and energy around gives the participants so much encouragement, however I feel it isn’t safe," she shared.

Inspector Avinash actor Harjinder Singh likes bhajans and kirtans during the festival time. "Janmashtami is a celebration of birth of lord Krishna.

In school, it used to be fun as one used to get to do a lot of masti with friends.
