In a surprising development in Indian television ratings, the horror show Ami Dakhni on Sony TV has outperformed the much-anticipated Bade Achhe Lagte Hain Naya Season (BALH 4), starring Harshad Chopda and Shivangi Joshi, during Week 26 of 2025 (ending July 2, 2025).
The rise of Ami Dakhni indicates a shift in audience preferences towards horror, challenging the romantic drama driven by the star power of Harshad and Shivangi. The show’s gripping supernatural storyline has resonated with viewers, effectively leveraging the growing appeal of the horror genre. Upon its debut on June 16, 2025, BALH 4 was projected to have a TVR of 0.8 to 1.0, boosted by the chemistry between Harshad as Rishabh and Shivangi as Bhagyashree. However, despite positive fan reactions on social media, where they praised the “soulful moments” and “aesthetic” storytelling, BALH 4 has struggled to achieve higher TRP ratings. This can be attributed in part to its delayed launch, which was to avoid competition with TMKOC's engaging “Bhootni 2.0” storyline.
Fans on social media have commented on Ami Dakhni’s edge, highlighting its “spooky vibe” as more appealing than BALH 4’s romantic drama. TMKOC’s continued success, bolstered by its haunted cottage plot and the Tapu-Sonu wedding arc, reflects the audience's preference for light-hearted yet compelling content. Producer Asit Kumarr Modi credits the show's 17-year legacy and the teamwork behind it for achieving a TVR of 2.2 in Week 24.
Conversely, Anupamaa's narrative in Mumbai has faltered, leading it to slip to second place. In addition, BALH 4’s plot involving a fake marriage, despite the buzz surrounding Harshad and Shivangi’s chemistry, has not matched the TRP impact of Ami Dakhni. The success of the horror show aligns with a broader trend seen in TMKOC’s ghost-themed storyline, suggesting that viewers are gravitating towards thrilling narratives over traditional romance.
Although Shivangi and Harshad’s star power, combined with the backing of Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, generated significant pre-launch hype for BALH 4, Ami Dakhni’s stronger opening highlights the current appeal of the horror genre. As TMKOC maintains its dominance in TRP ratings, Ami Dakhni’s unexpected success against BALH 4 signals that innovative storytelling has the power to challenge established brands, potentially reshaping the television landscape.
