Jhanak’s Controversy: Fan Backlash or Selective Outrage?

The drama surrounding "Jhanak" has taken a sharp turn, with fans criticizing the show for its misogynistic and anti-woke themes, especially following its 20-year leap. Social media posts o reveal a vocal group decrying the portrayal of the female lead as subservient, with scenes depicting her bowing to the male lead or enduring abuse normalized as acceptable behavior. Some critics even argue that the show trivializes serious issues like rape and promotes bigamy along with regressive stereotypes about women in villages.
Interestingly, these themes—misogyny, trauma, and complex family dynamics—were also present when "Jhanak" was a top-rated show, largely thanks to the electric chemistry between Hiba Nawab (Jhanak) and Krushal Ahuja (Aniruddha). So, what is fueling this uproar now? The shift in fan sentiment appears to be linked to the departure of Hiba and Krushal after the leap, which introduced new actors Arjit Taneja, Riya Sharma, and Twinkle Arora. Fans had adored Hiba and Krushal's nuanced performances, which likely masked some of the show's problematic elements during its peak.
Posts on X and Reddit suggest that their exit has left a significant void, with some claiming that the show's quality has plummeted without them. The "pathetic writing" by producer Leena Gangopadhyay is now under scrutiny. This backlash may reflect less a sudden awakening to misogyny and more a reaction to the loss of beloved leads, with fans amplifying their discontent to advocate for the show’s cancellation.
Recent reports indicate that "Jhanak" might go off-air soon, possibly to be replaced by "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2," adding further fuel to the fire. This selective outrage highlights how star power can overshadow narrative flaws—until those stars are gone. Are Hiba and Krushal’s fans simply making noise, or does the show genuinely have regressive writing? The truth likely lies in both camps, but the fans’ loyalty to their favorites seems to be driving the loudest protests.
