Sheen Dass on Embracing the Supernatural in Aami Dakini: A New Genre Adventure"

Sheen Das discusses the excitement and challenges of portraying a horror character in the new Sony TV series, *Ami Dakini*. She reflects on how she prepares herself to embody the role of an evil character.

Known for her stellar performances in popular shows such as *Piyaa Albela*, *Shaadi Ke Siyape*, and *Induwali Maa*, Sheen has established a successful track record in the industry, making her fans proud and supportive of her career journey.

Congrats on Aami Dakini! How is the supernatural genre different for

you?

Thank you! Aami Dakini marks my first foray into the supernatural genre, a completely new and exciting territory for me. Portraying the complex character of Dakini/Madhumati required unique preparation—voice modulation, distinct body language, and delving deep into the character’s emotions. It’s a role unlike anything I’ve done before, and I'm sure it will captivate the audience.

What kind of preparation went into this role?

: It was intense. I had to portray both Madhumati from a past life and Dakini, a vengeful spirit driven by betrayal and longing for her lost love. This meant studying the character’s emotional depth, plus physical aspects like costumes and makeup, which took 2 to 2.5 hours daily. The team effort was huge to bring this character to life.

Do you believe in the supernatural?

I’ve never experienced anything supernatural myself, but I respect others’ experiences. The mystery of it is what makes the genre so intriguing—you don’t know what’s real or not, and that’s the beauty of it.

How did you tap into Dakini’s darker side?

It’s about understanding her pain. Madhumati was betrayed by the person she loved most, so her actions as Dakini come from that hurt and obsession. She’s waited over 100 years to reunite with her love, blurring right and wrong in her quest. I focused on her motivations to make it authentic.

How were the costumes?

Sheen Dass: They were elaborate and vital to the character. Despite Mumbai’s humidity, the costumes, like the red saree, helped me get into Dakini’s mindset. Once I saw myself in the mirror, I was halfway into the role. It’s a lot of effort, but I love exploring as an actor.

: What should viewers expect from Aami Dakini?

Sheen Dass: Aami Dakini is not just a supernatural story, it's a journey filled with drama, emotions, revenge, and longing. Fans of shows like Aahat will find it particularly engaging. The production team, music, and direction have all come together to create a truly immersive experience for the viewers.

How was working with the cast?

Sheen Dass: It’s been great, though my character is initially mysterious, so I’m not in early episodes much. From episode 10, you’ll see Dakini’s backstory unfold. I’m now bonding well with the cast as we shoot more interactive scenes.

I Your character has both good and evil sides. How was that as an actor?

Sheen Dass: It’s exciting to play a dual role like this. Madhumati was a dancer and magician, innocent yet powerful, while Dakini’s driven by betrayal. Experiences shape her, and I studied her past and present to reflect those changes in body language and emotion.

How do you see your career growth?

Sheen Dass: I’m truly grateful for the opportunities that have come my way, allowing me to work consistently. Whether it's Aami Dakini or web series like Lal Batti and Bhayandar, I always strive to give my best. I’m not driven by excessive ambition, but rather by the joy of the journey and the balance I maintain between work and family time.

Any challenges with TV’s demanding schedule?

Sheen Dass: TV is intense, but I prefer focusing on one project to stay immersed. I’m open to great opportunities in web or film, but I love diving deep into what I’m doing now.

: Are you worried about being typecast as a villain?

Sheen Dass: Some might see Dakini as evil, but I don’t mind. It’s acting, not real life. I can’t explain to everyone that I’m not a spirit! I just focus on delivering the role authentically.

: What’s next for you? Any Bollywood plans?

: I’d love to do impactful roles in films or web series—characters that leave a mark. I audition regularly and pick projects that excite me, like something new or challenging. I’m open to opportunities but give my 100% to whatever I choose.

I Any personal updates, like settling down?

Sheen Dass: I’m happily married to an actor friend who gets the creative process. We bond over cinema and support each other. I’ve always felt settled, thanks to how my parents raised me to be independent.

What do you check before saying yes to a project?

: I prioritize roles I haven’t done before—something fresh and interesting. Even if it’s not ideal, I convince myself to give my all to make it real for the audience.

Best of luck with Aami Dakini!

Thank you! It was great chatting.
