Janhvi’s Param Sundari Accent Fumbles the Vibe,

The tea on Janhvi Kapoor’s accent in Param Sundari is piping hot and steeped in drama! The trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy, where Janhvi plays Sundari, a half-Malayali, half-Tamil girl, dropped recently, and her attempt at a South Indian accent has sparked a full-on online debate. Here’s the scoop:

On one hand, Janhvi’s got some stans hyping her up. Her dialect coach, Sheba Raju, posted on Instagram, raving about her "perfect" Malayali accent, saying she nailed the diction and cultural vibes, especially for a half-Malayali, half-Tamil character. Some fans are eating it up, praising her effort to channel South Indian sass, particularly in a viral monologue where she schools Sidharth Malhotra’s character on South Indian superstars like Mohanlal, Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun, and Yash. They’re calling it a vibe, with posts on X gushing over her “attitude and expressions” in that scene. But hold up—the shade is real from the other side. Malayali actor-singer Pavithra Menon threw some serious spice, questioning why Bollywood didn’t cast a native Malayali for the role. In a now-deleted Instagram video, she called out Janhvi’s accent as “caricaturist” and stereotypical, asking, “Hum kam talented hote hain kya?” (Are we less talented?). She wasn’t alone—content creator Steffi (

) and other Kerala natives dragged the portrayal, saying it’s an over-the-top cliché with jasmine flowers and Mohiniyattam vibes straight out of a ’90s Bollywood playbook. Comments on X and social media are savage, with some saying her accent is “cringe” and inconsistent, slipping into her natural Hindi at times. One user even quipped, “As a Malayali, I understood all the Hindi she said, but not a single Malayalam word.” Others called the trailer a “Kerala tourism ad” with forced chemistry.
The plot thickens: Pavithra’s video got yanked from Instagram after a copyright strike, which she clapped back at with a sarcastic “Happy Independence Day to everyone who has a voice.” This has only fueled the fire, with netizens split between defending Janhvi’s hustle and slamming Bollywood for recycling lazy South Indian stereotypes. Some even pointed out it’s not just Malayalis—Bengali portrayals get the same saree-bindi-kohl treatment.
