Vidrohi actress Rajeshwari Datta plays Panthara Devi, whom she describes as a loving and protective mother
"I am playing Panthara Devi, who is Radhamani's mother. She is a loving and protective mother who can do anything for her daughter," she said about her role in the historical show.
According to her, it's not the usual historical show. "It's unique because of its main character, which is based on Jagabandhu, who was a great warrior of Orissa. All the historical serials we have seen were based on either Maharana Pratap, Shivaji, Akbar or Prithviraj. Every 2 to 3 years, serials are made on warriors, but this is a story of warrior Jagabandhu. Only a few people know about him, and this is a fresh story too. It is the story of Yodha of the native land of Orissa," she explained.
Initially, she was not ready to take up this role as she had not done this type of role. "I am more comfortable doing family drama, comedy and intense roles. But what happens is that when you play a different character, you have to see a new form of your personality because in every human being there is love, hate, anger and pride. While doing this role, I understood that I too have what this character needs," she said.
In the show, she has to look older than her age. "I never did such a getup or look before. It takes time, at least one and a half hours to get the make-up done," she said.
She likes her costumes. "It's my first experience. It takes time to get ready, but it's part of my job, so I'm loving it," she said. She gets several compliments, but the biggest one is when people start recognising her by the character name, Panthara Devi, and appreciate her work.
The show is produced by Subrat Sinha and Dr. Bodhisattva of Gaatha Productions. "I am loving working with Gaatha Production. There is a family atmosphere on set. Subrat Sinha Sir and Bodhisattva Sir are very nice and down to earth. Many times they come to meet actors to make us feel comfortable on the set," she said.
She feels that when a person goes on a new set, he or she feels awkward but if people are nice then all goes well. "By God's grace, my co-actors, director, producers are very good," she said.
Shooting for this kind of a show takes long and involves a lot of hard work. "This kind of a serial takes so much involvement and hard work. For me, this is the toughest role in my acting career. Before this serial, I had done comedy in Jamai Raja, a negative role in Tujhse Raabta and an intense and emotional role in Meri Hanikarak Biwi," she said.
Many times she refused doing mythology and historical serials because she never felt confident in conversing in different languages. "This time my fiance Rohit Mehta suggested me to accept such roles. He said that I am a very good actor. Anyway, when you take challenges in life, whether it is your career or personal life, you definitely grow, she said.
