She can be seen on MTV Super Model of the Year Season 2 (Top 10 finalist)
: From the streets of a small town on the outskirts of Bhubaneshwar, to the glamourous ramp walks of Mumbai city, Swapna Priyadarsini has already covered a lot of ground in her relatively young career. This youth icon burst on to the fashion scene early in her pre-teens, with a slew of pageant appearances that paved the path for her to become a bona fide supermodel.
When faced with such an accomplished career woman at such a young age, one inevitably wonders what kind of thoughts must motivate her to work so hard. Afterall, at her age, most of us were still worrying about placement and internships. But she was participating in international beauty shows even before she become a legal adult. When asked about where this drive comes from, she replied, “It all comes down to knowing yourself. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be on stage. Being a performer was already my life as a child dancer, and modeling just became the next best thing. Afterall, I could get a similar level of recognition, with less than half the amount of practice sessions. At least, compared to dancing. So, it was never really about whether or not I would do it professionally. Just how long will it take me to get to where I want to be.”
Talking about how long it takes to reach the top, we simply had to ask Swapna, what did it feel like to finally be on a platform like Supermodel of the Year, and how did it compare to the first time she performed on a stage. To which she simply replied, “Surreal.” She went on to elaborate that, “When you are a kid from a middle-class family in a tier 2 town, dreams don’t really feel real, even after you achieve them. So, back then, appearing on the stage of ‘Dance Baby Dance’ as a child artist was in itself a huge dream come true. And if I had been a more easy-going person, I might have just stopped right there. But, thankfully for me, I am a very driven and hardworking person. When I see something I want, I give myself completely to the pursuit. And for the person that I am today, even reaching the top 10 of Supermodel of the Year is not enough. Sure, it feels amazing. But is it just the beginning of my journey, and I want to be all that I can be.”
Those were pretty inspiring words from a pretty inspiring woman. So, obviously the conversation turned to people that inspire us, and who did Swapna see as a person worth idolizing. To which, she immediately replied, “Sushmita Sen. I love that woman. She has a poise and grace to her that is truly unmatched. Whether we go back to her Miss Universe performance, or any of the movies she has done since, that woman always looks like the epitome of beauty and power. She was the person who got me interested in being a model in the first place, and who’s footsteps I would like to follow as I progress in my journey.”
That last line truly intrigued us, as we all know the path Ms. Sen took after wrapping up her modelling career. So, we had to ask Swapna whether she had similar ambitions for the silver screen. To which she impishly replied, “You’ll just have to wait and watch.” When pressed for details, she revealed, “Acting seems like the next logical evolution of my craft. I have spent years exploring my expression of self, as both a dancer and a model. I have trained both my body and my face to showcase a whole range of emotions in just a few moments. Yet, it still feels one-sided. For me to be fully immersed in the arts, I need to go beyond these current limitations, and acting seems like the perfect avenue to explore that. I don’t know what kind of actor I will end up being. But I do know that it is something that I am really looking forward to discover.”
These certainly felt like tidings of good things to come. But we simply couldn’t let Swapna go without probing some more about what was next for her down the road.Sadly for us, she loves to maintain an air of mystery, which was evident in her reply, “I am working on a lot of things right now. There are different projects that require different kinds of inputs, and I am exploring all the opportunities I can get. What will come of these opportunities is for time to tell. The only thing I can say for sure is that I caught the travel bug quite early in life. So, I want to see the whole world, work with international brands and designers, maybe even visit Hollywood and paint the town red. As long as I am having fun, I look forward to all that life has to offer to me.”
