A Missed Sip: Why Do You Wanna Partner Falls Flat?

Amazon Prime’s Do You Wanna Partner, starring Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty, promised a frothy buddy comedy about two friends launching a beer startup in a male-dominated industry. Both Tamannaah and Diana look like a million dollars, their charisma lighting up the screen with effortless charm. Yet, after just two episodes, I found myself switching off, disappointed by a show that feels more like a business documentary than the vibrant fiction it was pitched as. The premise—two women disrupting the brewing world—had potential, but the execution leans too heavily on startup jargon and predictable tropes, draining the fun from what could’ve been a lively ride.

The beer-and-startup angle, while intriguing, is too niche for the lay public. OTT platforms like Prime need broad appeal to justify their hefty budgets, but Do You Wanna Partner caters to an upper sliver of urban, entrepreneurial viewers, alienating those craving escapist entertainment. The pacing drags with boardroom scenes and industry lingo, lacking the sharp humor or emotional stakes to keep a casual audience hooked. It’s less a comedy and more a lecture on business plans gone awry. For a show banking on star power and a fresh concept, it misses the mark by not embracing fiction’s freedom to exaggerate or entertain. Tamannaah and Diana shine, but their glamour can’t salvage a script that feels like a pitch deck. Prime should’ve aimed for broader laughs or drama—think Silicon Valley’s wit or The Dropout’s intrigue—to keep viewers sipping past episode two.
